My Nightly Skin Care Routine

One comment

I recently switched up my skin care routine, and not only am I loving the results, but I’m getting tons of compliments — and that’s how you know it’s really working!

I’ve been getting so many compliments on my skin lately. This is at the end of a school day, and I’m still looking fresh-faced and glowy! That’s not all the makeup’s doing — that’s healthy skin from good skin care.

My nightly routine is multi-stepped, but quick. After a long day, the last thing I want to do is spend forever preparing for bed. This routine takes me about 5 minutes tops (and that usually includes brushing my teeth too!).

All of these items are affordable, and most are available at Target, Walgreens, CVS, and on Amazon. I’ve included links for everything below.

First I remove any eye makeup I have on. I wear waterproof mascara and an all-day wear liquid eyeliner that will not come off with face wash and water alone. I use Target’s oil-free eye makeup remover because it’s a quality product and very inexpensive. I’ve used some other brands that claim to be oil-free, but it left my eyelids and under my eyes feeling slick and greasy. Target’s brand says it’s comparable to Neutrogena (another brand I love!) , but it’s less expensive. A quick squeeze onto a cotton pad and a few swipes across my lids and through my lashes gets the job done.

STEP 2: Garnier SkinActive Milk Face Wash With Rose Water ($7)

Next, I massage a pump of Garnier Milk Face Wash into my skin to loosen  and wash off the rest of my makeup. I use a washcloth and lukewarm water gently wash away all the makeup and impurities. This product leaves my skin feeling very soft and smooth, and not at all tight like some face washes can. Once I’ve cleaned off my face, I pat dry with a towel.

Note: I recently learned that Garnier is not a cruelty-free company, and therefore I am not providing a link to purchase this product. I am currently seeking a replacement for this product and WILL NOT be purchasing a new bottle when mine runs out (I only learned about their status after purchasing). I will update when I find a replacement!

STEP 3: Burt’s Bees Acne Solutions Toner ($7)

For a long time, I underestimated the power of toner, but now that I’ve seen the light, I love this stuff! This extra step to cleanse my skin removes every last trace of makeup and dirt that my washcloth and face wash left behind. This toner also has salicylic acid that helps to combat breakouts and clean pores deep down.

STEP 4: Insta Natural Age Defying Retinol Serum ($22)

I know serums and face oils have been big in the beauty scene recently, but every time I started shopping around for serums, I was shocked to see prices upwards of $45. I don’t really like to consider myself cheap, but I definitely consider myself frugal.

When I found Insta Natural, and I was skeptical because of its affordability, but it’s fantastic! I squeeze a few drops on my hand and pat it into my skin. It smells amazing and the retinol keeps my skin smooth and bright. I owe much of my new glow to this potion!

Also available through Amazon for $17!

Until now, I have never used a night cream that was so moisturizing but greaseless. I don’t wake up in the morning with a slick face like I used to, and instead have a healthy, dewey complexion in the morning.  This cream tingles a little bit in a very refreshing way when first applied. It keeps my skin nourished and hydrated over night, and when I wake up, I feel radiant.

Also available through Amazon for $19!

The Insta Natural products are definitely splurges for me, but because of their effectiveness and the price point compared to similar products, they feel like a steal! I’m planning on visiting them again soon for an eye serum.

After swapping out makeup cleanser cloths for makeup remover and a gentle face wash, introducing an acne fighting toner and retinol serum, and swapping out my old night cream for a hydrating one with collagen, I’ve seen a massive difference in my skin. I’ve never had really trouble skin before, but the combination of these products is making it clearer and brighter than ever!

If you end up using any of these products, let me know in the comments or tag me on Instagram. I would love to know what products are working for you!
